Wake Up and Smell the Planet, The Non-Pompous, Non-Preachy Grist Guide to Greening Your Day. This book has just been added to my "wish list." While trying to do research on what do with those old darn mattresses, I came across the environmental news and commentary site grist.
One particular article from the site has information from Wake Up and Smell the Planet on how to recycle random "stuff." Included was a section on mattresses. Although there doesn't seem to be any strong solutions, one option is to Freecycle it. Another option is to sell it on Craigslist. It hadn't occured to me before reading this article that donation centers can be very particular on what they except.
~For those interested... yes, organic and vegan beds are available. ;)
