Upon arriving to PDX for departure, I encountered eco-friendly toilets in the restroom. Flush "up" for liquids, "down" for solids. I was all kinds of excited to see the good things to come! ...but, then came the flight. It absolutely killed me to see soda cans going into the garbage. Just think of the massive amounts of garbage that airlines could reduce just by having 1 garbage bag and 1 can recycling bag. I don't thing helping protect our environment will cost them a whole heck of lot. Don't get me wrong... I know it's all the money- capitalism. Blaaaaaa and yuck.
Next, I spent the whole week throwing away things that could be recycled- again, it killed me! Bottles, boxes, paper, plastic containers... the list goes on. I understand that a place that depends on a few hurricanes a year to provide all of their water supply has higher priorities than recycling.
So, speaking of water supply... there was one resort after another after another after another. What do you think all of these had in common? Grass. Lots of green luscious grass. Grrrrrr... a waste of their precious water to lure in the foreigners.

(Portland Christmas Tree; Portland, OR)
Well, I'll get off my soapbox for now. However, I'd like to state that I have resolved my Christmas tree Dilemma. I will be supporting the local tree farmers again this year. My justification is that those trees are purposefully planted for my Christmas delights and will be made in to a beautiful bark mulch following this holiday season.
