Why Take Chances?

A BPA "must read." It was a little more than 2 weeks ago that I caught the news talking about how the FDA finally admits that it was relying plastic manufacturer's studies to prove that plastic is safe- specifically bisphenol A (BPA.) When I Google BPA... what comes up at the top of the list? An American Chemistry Council "Facts on Plastic" sheet from August strongly upholding the FDA's position as well as there competency... hummm.

So, my initial gut feeling that BPA's cannot possibly be "good" for you is more than likely true after all. I found myself getting rid of all the plastic goods that I could. I could care less if they don't even contain BPA's... why not just rely on good ole glass when ever possible?

With that, I had to replace some household items. I found some reviews on sippy cups and straw cups for kids. In the end, it probably just depends on what you prefer, but I went for Thermos. I like that they are stainless steel over aluminum (although I do enjoy my sports top SIGG water bottle.) Thermos has sippy and straw cups... one line is Foogo and another is FUNtainers. All of the products are expensive, but at least the bottles will last for some time to come!

Nothing has been removed from shelves in stores as of yet. The FDA is waiting to confirm that BPA's are in fact dangerous. At least some companies like Playtex are stepping up and have product lines that are BPA free such as bottles and bottle liners. (Thank you Jenny for the passing the information on to me.)
