G8

I'll have to be honest. I have heard about G8 summit meetings before and was aware that the purpose was to "solve" world issues. Other than that, I knew nothing. After receiving an email from my friend Yumi who lives in Japan, I knew I need to learn more. Her email went basically like this:

She informed me she had been traveling and had attended the G8 (the US, Canada, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, France, Japan, and Russia) Summit meeting in Hokkaidao, Japan and the theme was the environment.

Yumi went on to inform that before the G8, there was Indigenous people's summit in Hokkaido, too that she went to see as well. Apparently, there were many Indigenous people from around the world. They feel it's not the G8 people who should be talking about environment, clean energy, and stuff since it's them who have been destroying the mother earth so bad.... And only thing they are really thinking is not ecology but economy. So they feel it's them, indigenous people who should be talking about nature.

My uneducated response to that was:

It makes sense to me that the indigenous people would have a issues with G8 taking on environmental issues. It sucks that the motive is economical. In fact, that has been my main gripe lately. People only care about the environment and only make it a priority when it is immediately effecting them (their pocket book.) It's a true shame. Just kills me! I don't think we are going to get long term results until people are motivated by authentic heartfelt desire to do all we can get our act straight. Greed does not produce long term positive results. You can not sugar coat and popularize being "green" for too long before it will become a failure due to the lack of genuine strive for change for the whole.

I need to learn more... can some one help me? So far, my education has derived from
Wikipedia
about this year's 34th G8 summit.
