In today's world, we never stop to think about what our modern day plastic conveniences are actually composed of and how easy they leach into our bodies. It's as if we think that plastic has been around forever, as though it's nothing new. Well, it's all relative. Plastic is VERY new. And, what is also VERY relatively new is the spread of cancer.
My friend Yumi let me in on a current article from Newsweek, The Chemicals Within. It explains in detail how 3 different chemical components found in plastics effect everyone from unborn babies to adults. It's definitely an interesting read. I had no idea that chemical traces were being found in umbilical cords. Babies are polluted before they are even born!
Of course there are opposing scientific arguments. Some scientist say that traces of certain chemicals in our bodies are harmless while others beg to differ. How could so many animal studies resulting in harmful effects lead anyone to believe we should play with the idea of continuing the use of these chemicals.
There are other options. Why is California the only state to take any action in making some change? My guess is that it isn't cost effective. Corporate America would rather make more money than be responsible and potentially save lives. Greed. We definitely need legislative action!
