Influence

Have you ever been handed over a receipt with the merchant telling you to go online for the chance to win money? Every time it happens to me, I ignore or forget about it and life goes on. Yesterday was the first day that I gave it a shot.

After purchasing some items at Target, I decided that it couldn't be a total waste of time to see what this "chance to win $500" was all about. It was a survey of course. My chances of winning? Didn't look, but probably slim to nothing. The way I see it, it was the perfect opportunity to voice my opinion on becoming green. When they asked what products do they not provide, I certainly gave my opinion. I urged them to become a strong leader and to do their part in providing a larger quantity of eco-friendly products and more of them. They are a store that can provide affordable products to a wide range of people and should do so.

There is definitely a problem with eating organic, using eco-friendly products or finding other means to live "green." It is expensive and in some cases, time consuming. It shouldn't have to be that way. For me, the benefits out way the time that goes into living a more sustainable life. However, this isn't true for most Americans. Most consumers will choose convenience over long-term positive, earth-friendly results.

We certainly need corporate America to make some BIG changes. People don't always like change, but change is in this case is good. It may take some getting used to... but, hey, at least TV is already beginning to make living green cool. In fact, the Today show is trying to lead by example and become green. In my eyes, yesterday's attempt truly suffered. The hosts were showing how beneficial it is to carpool. GREAT! Now, can we please get rid of your disposable Duncan Donut coffee cups that you all drank from during the ride to the studio together!!! Just irritated me.
