Repeat Offender???

Do you know about the environmental impacts of shipping bamboo? Do you know about the Bamboo forests that are cut down to make way for urbanization and manufacturing? (From what I understand, Bamboo deforestation that effects the habitat and endangers the Giant Panda is not the same Bamboo used in manufacturing, but is a separate issue... something else to research.)So, taking a look at shipping alone, which outweighs the other? Do we use bamboo or not?

I know I do. All the while I have had that voice in the back of my head wondering if is really a sustainable choice... sheets, towels, kitchen utensils... I have 'em. Now I want to expand on what I already have i.e. bamboo bowls instead of glass for the kids. I just want to know that I am not doing more harm than good.

There are shipping companies like TransNeutral whose purpose lies in greening shipments. "For every ton of CO2 TransNeutral shipments produce, another ton is taken away or prevented - permanently and transparently. That's the TransNeutral promise!" International services are under their umbrella. Great! Love to hear that there are promising options for the shipping of such products like bamboo.

That said, how would I know by walking in a store that from start to finish, my bamboo bowl arrived with minimal to no impact on the environment? What are the chances that a green shipping company was a part of that whole process?
