I'm the last person that should be writing about Socially Responsible Investing (SRI.) I know next to nothing! However, since my husband likes to gamble with the stock market, it has driven me to do some research.
From what I understand, some deep-rooted environmentalist will not even consider investing their money in the stock market. Supporting corporate America and the harm big businesses contribute to is not something they stand for...
That said, there are mutual funds that make the environment a priority. In their screening process, most mutual funds filter OUT companies that take an environmental approach. There is hope though! There are many SRI funds and I can't wait to learn more about them. I'm very excited about getting my free SRI Mutual Funds Guide!
Just remember that if you already have stocks you can still make changes. Being an activist from the inside is the best way how. Not only do we need to "green" companies to develop and expand, but we need shareholder resolution with big businesses to become eco-aware.
